“The climate emergency is a health emergency – forging a path to net-zero has never been more important” – Dr Helena McKeown, British Medical Association
Climate change is the leading threat to global health. In 2022, NHS England set ambitious targets to reach net zero for direct emissions by 2040 and reach net zero for emissions it influences by 2045. The launch of the Greener NHS programme further underscores the commitment to these goals. However, to translate national policy into impactful change at a local level, the NHS requires trusts and integrated care systems to create Green Plans, assign a board-level lead, collect data, work with suppliers, and monitor developments across areas, including estates, energy and supply chains.
The Institute of Government & Public Policy has earned a reputation for delivering insightful and thought-provoking energy and sustainability conferences. Building on the success of the online Future of Sustainable Healthcare Conference 2023, which included presentations from influential speakers such as Heidi Barnard, Head of Sustainability at NHS Supply Chain, Dr Fiona Adshead, Chair of the Sustainable Healthcare Coalition, and Rachel Stancliffe, Director of the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare, the Sustainable Healthcare Conference 2024 is coming to London.
Join us for the Second Annual National Sustainable Healthcare Conference 2024, which will provide an update on national ambition to deliver the world’s first net zero health service, practical examples of direct interventions to decarbonise the NHS, and the crucial role of strong leadership and collaboration with industry partners, government agencies, and local communities in achieving net zero.
