Online Event 7 June 2022, 9:00am - 4:00pm
In July 2020, Part One of the National Food Strategy, a Government-commissioned independent review into the food system was published. This was followed by Part Two in July 2021. PART One contained seven specific recommendations intended to help the most disadvantaged families eat well, protect the UK’s high food standards and ensure proper scrutiny of trade deals. Part Two looks at how the food system works, the damage it is doing to our bodies and our ecosystem and the interventions we could make to prevent these harms. One of the recommendations is to expand the role of the Food Standards Agency as an independent regulator to make sure that food is safe. 33% of adults and 50% of children are affected by allergies in the UK and there has been a 615% increase in hospital admissions related to allergic disease during the last 20 years. On 1st October 2021, the new Pre-Packed for Direct Sale regulations come into effect with new labelling regulations for prepacked for direct sale food.
This timely conference will bring together senior leaders to discuss the most crucial topics related to food safety and security. It will feature case study examples from local authorities who are charged with enforcing food safety laws, the advances in food scanning technology and the impact of Brexit on the food supply chain. It also examines issues such as food access, preventing malnutrition and creating a sustainable food and farming system in the UK.
