Improving Care for Older People

Online Conference 13 December 2022, 9:00am - 3:00pm

Overview

Advances in healthcare and increased standards of living are increasing life longevity. More than a fifth of the population in the UK are aged over 60, and the ONS predicts that number to increase by almost 5 million people by 2025. The number of people aged 85 and over is projected to almost double by 2045.

As the population ages, rates of vulnerabilities, frailty, and comorbidities collectively increase. More than 75% of 75-year-olds in the UK have multiple long-term conditions, rising to 82% of 85-year-olds. This increases the strain on healthcare services, from the NHS to private care provision, and adds pressure to the housing sector.

This event will explore the necessary improvements in the quality of care provided in nursing homes, geriatric care, mental health, and other facets of healthy aging for the older population.
