Director of Population Health Management

Dr Laura French is Director of Population Health Management at the Derby and Derbyshire Integrated Care Board. She is an experienced Consultant in Public Health and her previous areas of work have included Children and Young People’s Public Health, Sexual Health, Maternal/Women’s Health, NHS Health Checks and Health in All Policies/Wider Determinants. She also has experience in communicable disease control and outbreak management and regularly teaches on this topic. During the Covid-19 pandemic, she was lead for the Covid testing programme for Leicester City, and also public health lead for Covid-19 vaccination.

She has previously worked with children and young people as an educator for a sexual health charity, before qualifying as a doctor in 2009. She initially trained in obstetrics and gynaecology for some years before changing path to train in public health medicine in the East Midlands. She is passionate about tackling health inequalities, particularly in sexual and reproductive health, and working in partnership with communities to improve health and wellbeing for all. She is currently co-chair of the Faculty of Public Health's Special Interest Group on sexual and reproductive health.

In her free time she is a keen orchestral musician, playing the viola for the Sheffield Symphony and Hallam Sinfonia orchestras, and as an animal-lover, is a regular borrower of friends' dogs.
