Chris Bones is the Chair of the Board of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development, the second largest HR professional body in the world.  The CIPD sets standards for the HR profession and works with the profession and the organisations within which they work to drive productivity and performance.

He is also Chair of the Bar Standards Board, the regulator for Barristers in England and Wales and one of His Majesty’s Commissioners for Judicial Appointments and a Board member of the Judicial Appointments Commission.

As well as an extensive non-executive career in the private, public and third sectors, he is a former senior HR executive in Diageo and Cadbury Schweppes.  He was appointed Dean Emeritus of Henley Business School after being its Principal and Executive Dean for six years, he was also awarded an Emeritus Professorship at Manchester University after retiring as a Professor at the Alliance Manchester Business School.  He was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Aberdeen for his work on leadership.  He won the Management Book of the Year Prize in 2012 for his analysis of leadership in business in relation to the financial crisis of 2008: The Cult of the Leader.  He has authored and co-authored a further three books.
