How can health and care services prevent avoidable wounds, improve healing outcomes and deliver consistent, high-quality tissue viability care amid growing pressures on the NHS?
Wound care remains a significant challenge for health and care services, requiring effective prevention, early intervention and coordinated treatment across hospitals, community services and social care. Following the conclusion of the National Wound Care Strategy Programme in March 2025, responsibility for improving local wound care services continues through NHS England’s ongoing work and Integrated Care Boards (ICBs). The Government’s 2026 update on community health services reinforces the importance of consistent service provision, effective commissioning and improved patient access.
However, services continue to face significant challenges, including workforce capacity, inconsistent clinical pathways, delayed referrals, complex wounds, pressure ulcer prevention and rising demands on community nursing. Variation in assessment, treatment selection and access to specialist expertise can affect patient experience, healing outcomes and resource utilisation. Digital integration, reliable clinical data and evidence-based procurement also present opportunities to improve efficiency and demonstrate value for money.
The Institute of Government & Public Policy has built a strong reputation for delivering insightful and impactful healthcare conferences. Our previous Wound Management and Tissue Viability Conferences have received outstanding feedback from delegates:
