As a pracademic, John has worked across professional practice and higher education for the last 30 years. My professional experience in policing has involved a number of specialist roles: working with the Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA), the Strategic Police Matters Unit (SPMU) within the Organisation for Security in Europe (OSCE) and Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC). 

John has a strong interdisciplinary background, at both strategic and tactical levels, and has a proven track record of working across silos and bringing diverse teams together for common benefits. He is an experienced external examiner, academic supervisor, researcher and writer of overt and covert outputs. He is also a resident columnist with Police Professional, the UK’s biggest selling policing publication, where he ‘translates’ criminal justice related research for operational impact. He is the founder of the Innovation in Policing national competition.
