Frances Beagon

Belfast HSC Trust

Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Neurodiversity Lead for Psychological Services

Dr Frances Beagon, Consultant Clinical Psychologist is the Neurodiversity Lead for Psychological Services in Belfast HSC Trust. Frances started her career in clinical psychology in Community Paediatrics and moved to specialise in Autism in 2010. Frances lectured in Autism on the clinical psychology doctorate course at Queen’s University Belfast for many years and was a member of the executive committee of the Autism Diagnostician’s Forum NI (ADFNI) for ten years.  Appointed Neurodiversity Lead in 2023, Frances provides strategic leadership in developing neuro‑inclusive practice across the Trust. In this new role for Belfast Trust, Frances has been building connections with staff, services, agencies and service users, with the recognition that lived experience of different neurotypes is beneficial to Belfast Trust as a whole. Frances offers training to staff, provides clinical consultations, consults on neuro-inclusive environments, supports the development of Neurodiversity Champions across the Trust, co-chairs the Belfast Autism Forum, links with services across the Trust and regularly publishes the Neurodiversity News. Outside work, Frances enjoys travelling—though she admits one relative has set the bar rather high, as she is related to astronaut Neil Armstrong, the first person to walk on the moon.
