Martin had a career in the legal profession spanning over 30 years, as a partner with international law firms Nabarro LLP and CMS. He retired from practice in 2018. He now works with AESSEAL plc, the largest homogeneous mechanical seal company in the world, the business is headquartered in Rotherham and operates from 203 locations in 110 countries. AESSEAL has achieved and gone beyond net zero CO2 emissions with its global business and is the winner of 12 Queen’s Awards. Martin also undertakes a broad portfolio of work in the business, charity, voluntary and education sectors. He is Chair of the Sheffield Property Association ( the only formally constituted property association outside of London) , a Non- Executive Director of Sheffield Chamber of Commerce and Chair of the Northern Regional Assembly which comprises the 16 Chambers of Commerce in the North of England. Martin is a trustee of Whirlow Hall Farm Trust, The Burton Street Foundation, St Luke’s Hospice and the Herbert Hughes Memorial Fund, all based in Sheffield. He is the current High Sheriff of South Yorkshire.
