The landmark ‘Levelling Up’ plan, released in February 2022 outlined the Government’s intentions for promoting inclusive growth and reducing geographical disparities across the United Kingdom, particularly in the areas of healthy life expectancy, productivity, qualifications, and literacy and numeracy levels. The principles of Levelling Up are linked to economic recovery; improved transport connectivity; and regeneration.
‘Levelling Up’ does not involve making every region the same, but rather requires providing access to chances to increase skills, employment, and economic activity. This needs to involve collaboration with local service providers, senior council figures, and across government departments.
Since the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic began, improving and providing equal access to opportunities has become an important Government priority. For this to be successful and achieve the desired benefits, Levelling Up must include a comprehensive use of national data with standard methodology and metrics, alongside a commitment of a timescale and costs for achieving these goals.
The government has designated key priorities for the Levelling Up Fund in connection with the priorities of local communities, prioritising investing in infrastructure with a clear effect in communities. This includes providing support bids to regenerate town centres and high streets; improve local transportation connectivity; and revitalise cultural, heritage and civic assets. The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities is now supporting nearly 500 locally led projects, which aim to bring an extra £200 million to local economies and align with the net-zero emissions target.
This event will provide an opportunity to discuss this new initiative, and how the Levelling Up agenda can improve social outcomes and support people and places across the country. It will consider the current strategies to level up and improve connections, and address how these objectives can be met and surpassed. The event will focus on how to transform regional inequalities and involve people of different backgrounds and needs in delivering these recommendations, as well as outlining key methods for measuring progress.
We have a limited number of sponsored speaking and branding opportunities available. Complete the partnership enquiry form or email [email protected] for more information.
