Patrick has recently been appointed as the first Director for Innovation and Transformation at Health Education England.

Prior to this recent appointment, Patrick was the South Regional Director for HEE and provided strategic leadership for the multi-professional workforce agenda through the Local Education & Training Board (LETB), leading a range of programme reforms. 

He also chairs e-integrity, a private enterprise jointly governed between HEE and the Royal Colleges, marketing learning materials internationally and reinvesting the profits into NHS e-learning. Patrick is also a Trustee of Framework, a charity and housing association dedicated to helping homeless people, preventing homelessness, and promoting opportunities for vulnerable and excluded people across the East Midlands.

Before starting his South role in 2016, Patrick was Director of National Programmes in HEE where he led a range of programmes including the implementation of the national system for selection and recruitment of doctors and dentists in training, known as Oriel. His role in several taskforces focussed on the HEE mandate, designing and implementing solutions for workforce challenges in primary care, urgent and emergency care, public health and mental health. 

Patrick joined HEE in 2013 moving from joint senior roles as Director of Medical and Dental Education at the Department of Health and Director of the Better Training Better Care programme at Medical Education England. 

Previously he was Chief Operating Officer/Deputy Chief Executive at St Georges Healthcare NHS Trust in south London and Director for Operations at the Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Trust. He began his career as a graduate management trainee in the Trent Region and he has worked at several London teaching hospitals including Guy's & St Thomas'.
