Sam Hart

Innovation Manager, Construction Scotland Innovation Centre

Bringing over 20 years’ experience in construction and housebuilding, Sam joined CSIC to increase our offering around timber and offsite manufacturing and to develop Scottish industry in these areas. Working with a broad range of companies from small civil engineering firms to large volume house builders, he has both hands-on experience and management expertise and enjoys developing relationships across the industry to enable optimum delivery of high impact sectoral programmes and innovation projects. Over the last 3 years, he has collaborated closely with Scottish Forestry, Confor, the Structural Timber Association and Scottish Government departments such as the Building Standards Division, to facilitate collaboration with the Scottish timber and off-site sectors and leading Scottish academics in this area. This has focused on the use of homegrown timber in construction, biogenic offsite manufacture (Bio-OSM) and the increase in opportunity for offsite manufacturing and the use of mass timber in construction projects. Working currently as a secondee to the National Manufacturing Institute of Scotland (NMIS) at the University of Strathclyde, Sam coordinates their construction-related activity into the wider eco-system. Sam aims to enhance Scotland’s reputation as global flag-bearers for offsite manufacture and innovation across the sector by bringing together industry partners, the public sector and academia through collaboration and partnerships. Sam currently leads the Scottish Forest & Timber Technologies Industry Leadership Group’s “Increasing timber in construction” subgroup, sits on Construction Leadership Council’s Manufacturing Working Group, is an Observer on the Offsite Solutions Scotland Ltd board, and is a board member of Berwickshire Housing Association.
