There are currently over 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK. It is estimated that by 2025, this figure will be more than 1 million. 1 in 14 people over the age of 60 have dementia, and this figure is constantly rising as people with dementia live longer, year on year. And there currently is no cure.

The cost of treating people with dementia in the NHS and the social care system is £23 billion per year which is more than the cost of cancer, heart disease and strokes. The COVID-19 pandemic has led to extremely high death rates amongst people living with dementia - 25% of all Covid-19 deaths in England and Wales.
