Tackling Violence Against Women and Girls 2023

Learning Outcomes

  • Examine government policies, focusing on the 2021 Domestic Abuse Act, the End-to-End Rape Review report and the new cross-Government VAWG Strategy and Domestic Abuse Plan
  • Address the revised support offer set out by the Government in March 2022
  • Assess plans to reduce violence assess with other government priorities, including neighbourhood crime and homicide
  • Recognise the support needed for victims and develop partnerships with the police and councils to improve community cohesion
  • Understand how to lower the levels of violence against women and girls using evidence from survivors, witnesses, and those who work to support them, using this to actively identify and prevent crimes
  • Discuss the role of education in tackling violence against women and investigate the underlying issues of gender-based violence from an academic perspective
  • Address the new forms of violence and their implications on institutional outcomes for victims and perpetrators
  • Hear how to challenge harmful stereotypes and patriarchal norms which lead to violence, looking at a whole-of-society approach at home, school, the workplace, in public spaces and online
  • Scrutinise how perpetrators utilise technology to conduct illegal activity including cyber flashing and other new behaviours
