Supporting LGBTQIA+ Inclusion In The Workplace 2023

Online Conference 29 June 2023, 9:00am - 3:00pm

Overview

Everybody should feel safe, included, and protected in the workplace. However, in a world where LGBTQIA+ people continue to face inequalities, violence, and discrimination, it is vital to develop legal protections and active allyship to meet the needs of a diverse workforce.

CIPD’s ‘Inclusion at Work’ report uncovered that over 20% of LGBTQIA+ workers experience discrimination during recruitment and promotion, and over a third worry about possible bias. Specific findings from the transgender and non-binary workers’ survey highlighted the role of effective leadership, the ability to be authentic at work, and support from staff networks and HR policy, for creating needed changes.

According to IGPP’s most recent data, 85% of public sector leaders believe that to avoid ‘pinkwashing’ or profiting from appearing inclusive, organisations should demonstrate long-term commitments to action, with a further 8% advocating for companies to end hypocritical funding of anti-LGBTQIA+ causes.

Issues affecting the LGBTQIA+ community affect the wider workplace culture, therefore designing inclusive workplaces requires challenging microaggressions, providing clear channels of communication, and reporting unacceptable behaviour. The intersectional aspects of identity affect workplace experiences and these circumstances differ across industries and regions.

Following the insights and learnings shared at the National Advancing LGBTQIA+ at Work 2022 and 2023 conferences, this event will provide an opportunity to explore strategies for supporting LGBTQIA+ people, uncover good practices for tackling harassment and stigma, build awareness, and embrace intersectionality.

Join IGPP’s next LGBTQIA+ Inclusion conference to hear priorities for promoting equality and diversity, overcoming discrimination, and how to develop accepting, safe workplaces where everybody can thrive.
