Supporting Children and Young People with SEND 2023

Right support, right place, right time

Online Conference 7 March 2023, 9:00am - 3:00pm

Overview

From early years to adulthood, children and young people with Special Education Needs Disabilities (SEND) in the UK have insufficient educational resources, limited access to social care services, and fewer employment opportunities in later life. In the Government’s latest SEND Review, parents and carers show a lack of confidence in the quality of mainstream schools, while unpredictable budget also limits the range of alternative provision parents can choose. The governments recent SEND provision improvement plan: ‘right support, right place, right time’, addresses these concerns highlighting ways these can be alleviated.

With over 430,000 children and young people in England having an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), the increasing demands for SEND support urges a more regional and collaborative partnership across local councils, social care, parents, and schools to meet specific needs in local areas.

To sustain such local partnerships, the Government aims to invest an additional £300 million through the Safety Value Programme and £85 million through the Delivering Better Value Programme to support those local authorities with worst deficits. However, to provide the best possible outcomes, it is crucial to find a balance between serving increasing numbers of SEND pupils and deploying resource efficiently.

Join the Supporting Children and Young People with SEND 2023 to hear the latest policy and analysis on how to level up experience and outcomes of services for SEND pupils, young people, and their families. The event will dive into key dimensions with the best case studies on incentivising inclusive schools, fostering people-centred learning, driving accessible social care services, strengthening early-year intervention, and managing cross-organisational collaboration.

Last year’s Supporting Children And Young People with SEND 2022 event featured case studies and keynote presentations from Department for Education, Nasen, Sense, and more.
