Zoe is an English, Literacy and EAP lecturer, with a twenty-year career encompassing school, community and Higher Education settings. She has a special interest in SEND and mental health provision in education and is an active campaigner in relation to inclusive practice and co-produced SEND education reform. She is interested in disrupting the dominant narratives around inclusion and 'reasonable' adjustments, and in challenging the 'othering' of mature students in academia. As an EdDoc researcher at LJMU, Zoe’s focus is support for autistic individuals in educational settings, the language we use when speaking and writing about autism and neurodivergence, and the experiences of autistic children, their families and the education professionals working with them. Her current research project is an in-depth exploration of operations of power in the EHCP process. Zoe approaches her research from multiple perspectives: as an educator , as a lived experience expert, as a disabled, mature researcher , and as a parent-carer .
