Beth Gibson MBE

Birmingham City Council

Head of Attendance and Inclusive Pathways

Beth Gibson MBE is Head of Attendance and Inclusive Pathways at Birmingham City Council, leading citywide strategies to strengthen school attendance, inclusion, and family engagement. With nearly twenty years of teaching experience and a decade in senior leadership, she has worked across diverse school contexts, including roles supporting SEND, Children in Care, and whole‑school culture change.

Awarded an MBE in the 2026 New Year Honours for services to education, Beth is nationally recognised for developing a banded attendance approach that improved outcomes at The Queen Elizabeth Academy and influenced practice across the country. Her work has included mental‑health‑focused attendance initiatives, strengthened extracurricular and enrichment opportunities, and enhanced family liaison, all designed to build belonging and resilience in young people.

In 2025, she presented at nine Department for Education regional conferences, sharing her approach with over 2,000 school leaders and contributing to national policy conversations on attendance. Her philosophy centres on accessible data, reduced workload, and a supportive, proactive ethos for schools.

Now working within local authority practice, Beth focuses on building strong partnerships that give schools the tools they need to better support children and families. Rooted in a background in psychology and mental health, she is driven by a commitment to equity, belonging, and helping every child thrive.
