Karen Pilling

Chapel Street Community Primary School

Deputy Head & SENCo

My name is Karen Pilling, and I currently serve as Deputy Head at Chapel Street Community Primary School. I entered the teaching profession later than some and bring over 21 years of experience to my role. While my expertise lies primarily in Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), I have taught across all three key stages.

Before becoming Deputy Head, I spent six years as Assistant Head for Inclusion and SENCO, developing a strong specialism in SEND. My work in this area has been nationally recognised, with articles published by The National College and Teach.net. I have also delivered CPD sessions for Manchester Metropolitan University on SEND provision and behaviour management for teachers in language schools.

In addition, I act as a consulting expert for The National College, where I have written and presented numerous training webinars on safeguarding and SEND. As a Specialist Leader of Education (SLE), I focus on SEND and behaviour, supporting schools across Manchester and Liverpool to improve practice and outcomes.
