Cara McCann is a leading advocate for LGBTQIA+ rights in Northern Ireland and the Director of HERe NI, the region’s only dedicated support organisation for LGBTQIA+ women and their families. With over two decades of experience in community development, equality campaigning, and strategic leadership, Cara has played a central role in advancing inclusive services, challenging inequality, and amplifying underrepresented voices.

Under her leadership for the past 14 years, HERe NI has expanded its reach and impact—delivering trauma-informed support, advocating for policy change, and creating safe, empowering spaces for women across the LGBTQIA+ community. Cara’s work is rooted in a deep commitment to social justice and transformative change. 

Cara holds a Certificate in Women's Studies, a degree in Sociology, a Master’s degree in Gender Studies, Level 7 Certificate in Strategic Management and Leadership Practice along with being a Chartered Manager.  She has contributed to regional research, advised government bodies, and led on campaigns that centre lived experience.

A passionate and resilient leader, Cara brings lived experience, strategic insight, and unwavering dedication to ensuring LGBTQIA+ women are seen, heard, and supported in every aspect of life.
