Safeguarding Refugees and Asylum Seekers 2023

Online Conference 24 October 2023, 9:00am - 3:00pm

CPD accredited by IGPP badge

Overview

Each year, a significant number of people are forced to flee their home country to seek asylum or claim refuge in the UK. In the year ending September 2022, the UK received 72,027 asylum applications from main applicants only. And each year, this number is increasing, with the figure for 2022 double the number of applications in 2019.

The support and resettlement system in the UK is under pressure. A huge backlog in cases means that people can face long waits for the outcomes of an application. Even after being granted refugee status, asylum seekers face ongoing challenges, including difficulties finding employment opportunities and exposure to potential violence and poverty as they strive to rebuild their lives in the UK.

The Institute of Government & Public Policy has earned a reputation for delivering insightful and thought-provoking home affairs and justice conferences. Feedback from previous events on Safeguarding Refugees and Asylum Seekers has been overwhelmingly positive. Attendees praised the engaging speakers and informative sessions, solidifying the conference's reputation for delivering valuable insights.

Join us at the biannual Safeguarding Refugees and Asylum Seekers conference, where industry experts and thought leaders will explore the crucial themes of partnership, collaboration and fostering integration and social inclusion amongst refugees and asylum seekers in the UK. By improving collaboration between local authorities, humanitarian support groups, and local communities, we can adopt a comprehensive whole-system approach to address the unique challenges refugees and asylum seekers face. The conference will also explore strategies to promote refugees' mental health and well-being, ensuring their holistic care and support.
