In response, DSIT's Government Cyber Action Plan has established a new Government Cyber Unit, backed by £210 million of investment, tasked with building a new operating model for government cyber security by April 2027. Alongside it, the Cyber Security and Resilience Bill is progressing through Parliament, set to extend statutory obligations across suppliers, managed service providers and digital services for the first time. 

Unfortunately, legacy infrastructure, budgetary constraints, and a widening skills gap mean many public sector organisations are being asked to meet these new standards faster than they can resource them.
