The threat landscape has shifted faster than most organisations can adapt. 43% of UK businesses, around 612,000 organisations, reported a breach or attack in the past year, with an estimated 5.19 million cybercrimes committed against UK businesses. The NCSC recorded 204 nationally significant incidents in the past 12 months, more than double the 89 recorded the year before. 

The Cyber Security and Resilience Bill is set to become the most significant overhaul of UK cyber law since 2018, bringing managed service providers, data centres and critical suppliers into scope, with fines of up to £17 million or 4% of global turnover and a 24-hour incident-reporting clock. For private sector organisations, the challenge is no longer just defending against attackers, it's proving resilience to regulators, insurers and customers simultaneously, often with stretched budgets, patchy supply-chain visibility, and boards still building their cyber literacy.
