Gemma Sadler is a Matron for Tissue Viability, Infection Prevention and Control, and Leg Ulcer Services within Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) Community Services. Providing clinical and professional leadership across community services, Gemma is passionate about improving patient outcomes, reducing avoidable harm and embedding high-quality, evidence-based practice across wound care and infection prevention.

Holding a master's degree in nursing Practice: Tissue Viability and a V300 Non-Medical Prescribing qualification, Gemma combines advanced specialist clinical expertise with leadership across Tissue Viability, Infection Prevention and Control and leg ulcer services. Her work focuses on improving clinical standards, reducing variation in practice, supporting workforce education, and developing innovative approaches to improve the experience and outcomes of people living with complex wounds.

A strong advocate for evidence-based, patient-centered care, Gemma is passionate about challenging established practice and ensuring clinical decisions are informed by the best available evidence, clinical expertise and what matters to patients. She believes evidence-based practice should be practical, meaningful, and translated into everyday clinical care rather than simply existing within policies and guidelines.

Gemma has a particular interest in service transformation, quality improvement, clinical education and collaborative working, bringing together Tissue Viability, Infection Prevention and Control and leg ulcer expertise to improve patient safety and outcomes. She is passionate about empowering clinicians to question practice, share learning, and become advocates for improvement within their own teams.

Her wider interests include pressure ulcer prevention and management, leg ulcer transformation, compression therapy, infection prevention, clinical governance, patient safety, and reducing variation in care. At the heart of Gemma’s practice is a commitment to advocacy, education and evidence-based improvement, ensuring that patients receive the right care, based on what matters to them and what the evidence tells us works.
