How can we deliver truly effective wound care when demand is rising, costs are soaring, and outcomes still vary so widely across the NHS?
Recent studies show that wounds now affect nearly 3.8 million adults, a dramatic 71 % increase since 2012–13, and that around two-thirds of the total NHS spend on wound care, approximately £5.6 billion of £8.3 billion, is attributable to wounds which still haven't healed. The National Wound Care Strategy Programme (NWCSP) is taking action and commissioning the National Wound Care Workforce Framework for England. This framework focuses on improving healing rates, enhancing patient care, and increasing cost-effectiveness while reducing the incidence and recurrence of wounds.
