Sarah McIntosh

MHFA England

Chief Executive

Sarah joined MHFA England in 2019 as Director of People and Organisational Effectiveness, before becoming Director of Delivery in January 2021 and Managing Director of the Association of Mental Health First Aiders® in July 2024. In September 2024, she became Interim Chief Executive, and our board of non-executive directors has now appointed her permanently.

Sarah has been at the heart of designing MHFA England products and services for our community. During her five years at MHFA England she has built strong relationships with Instructor Members, clients, and learners. She has played a vital role in setting and delivering the organisation’s strategy to improve the mental health of the nation.

Prior to joining MHFA England, Sarah was Director of People and Membership at the National Union of Students and Head of Diversity and Wellbeing at the Co-Operative Banking Group. She has also served as a Non-Executive Director at Social Enterprise UK since May 2022.

Sarah was instrumental in the establishment of the first and only membership body for Mental Health First Aiders. Her appointment comes at an exciting period for our social enterprise, as we prepare to launch the new Youth MHFA training and developing an organisational strategy for 2025 and beyond. Both will ensure our training, consultancy, and campaigning continues to pave the way for positive mental health in the workplace and beyond.
