Director of Mental Health
Chris joined CQC as our Director of Mental Health in October 2022. He was appointed as the Interim Chief Inspector of Healthcare in May 2024 and then the Interim Executive Director for Operations and Executive Lead for Mental Health in March 2025.
A registered mental health nurse, Chris has more than 20 years’ experience of delivering, commissioning and transforming healthcare services. Before joining CQC, he was a deputy director of NHS England’s national retention programme. He also worked as a programme director leading mental health service transformation in London.
From 2017 to 2021, he worked as a global healthcare consultant for Health Education England in India, giving technical support for mental health services there.
Chris is a coach and mentor of young people from minority ethnic backgrounds.
