Keynote Address: Survival Of The Fittest: Lessons From Biology

Biological metaphors are not uncommon when talking about organisations, whether in trying to understand how they function or how they fail in times of crisis. However, without some understanding of the biological system upon which the metaphor is based, the metaphor can mislead or its intent be misunderstood. Furthermore, organizations are by created by, run by and rely upon multiple and interacting biological organisms (people): another reason it is important to understand how a biological organism behaves in a crisis. This presentation will consider how people and their organizations can benefit from understanding the human response to a crisis.
