Elizabeth Carr-Ellis

Creator & co-founder of the Pausitivity #KnowYourMenopause campaign and menopause activist at @50Sense on YouTube and Twitter. Journalist and Labour Councillor

Elizabeth is a key player when it comes to grassroots menopause activism and raising awareness. Frustrated by her own lack of knowledge around menopause, which led to four years of increasingly worse symptoms and a visit to A&E, she began the Pausitivity #KnowYourMenopause campaign to get menopause awareness posters in GP surgeries across the UK.

Since it began in July 2019, Pausitivity #KnowYourMenopause has gone global, with posters being displayed from Canada and the US to Africa, India and Australia. It is the most cited menopause campaign in Westminster and Holyrood and has appeared in national and international press, radio and media – yes, even the Davina McCall documentary! Most recently, it was part of the discussions around the introduction of BS 30416 to help support menstrual and menopausal health in the workplace.

A keynote speaker to MPs and peers at the first APPG Menopause at Westminster, Elizabeth has worked closely with politicians across the UK. In addition, she has gained the support of trade unions and healthcare officials to translate Pausitivity's posters into several languages, including Urdu, Romanian and Polish, and created a “video poster” that uses signs, speech and visuals to help people with special education needs. She has also supported community groups helping the more vulnerable members of society, including foodbank clients and Big Issue vendors, and spoken out for menopausal women to High Court judges at the Old Bailey.

Having hit the depths with her own menopause, Elizabeth is now determined that no other woman should feel alone and through her 50Sense Twitter and YouTube channels, shares her message with empathy, understanding and a big dose of humour to help everyone #KnowYourMenopause.
