Dr. Gary Latta

Commercial Estates Group

Head of Health and Safety

Dr Gary Latta is an active Chartered Fellow of IOSH and has been involved in safety and health for over 15 years, starting with managing lethal risk in the British Army.

Gary has gained considerable international and UK experience as a practitioner working for large organisations in the Middle east and UK. Gary successfully delivered a significant reduction in the volume of incidents when leading health and safety for Weatherford International in Iraq, achieving zero injuries or incidents in previously high incident rate areas such as driver safety.

Gary was part of the Senior Leadership team for a dual site role with PepsiCo UK whilst also stepping up as the UK safety lead for over 6 months. During his tenure at PepsiCo UK he successfully supported the transition from paper-based reporting to an online tracking portal. This enhanced communications across shift teams and senior leadership by highlighting near misses of accidents immediately utilising digital support. Gary also developed greater representation within shift teams supporting volunteers to undertake on-shift health and safety duties including undertaking accredited learning activities. Gary focused on employee engagement and ownership to enhance the workplace safety culture, which delivered year-on-year reductions in accidents at work.

Gary is currently the Head of Health and Safety for Commercial Estates Group, supporting the management of safety across operational and development sites. Prior to this role Gary was a Health and safety Business Partner for Lloyds Banking Group and before that the Regional Quality, Health, Safety and Environment (QHSE) manager for Weatherford International located in the Middle East. Gary delivered a notable improvement in reporting by employees to identify risks and prevent potential for harm to occur. The large change management approach to rebrand health and safety within the region, delivered a customer facing function that provided greater and more engaged QHSE support to operational teams.

Gary was invited to join the advisory council for the HSE EU virtual conference in May 2021. Gary has previously spoken at the IOSH conference in 2019 on the topic of CPD and contributed to the IOSH magazine providing a column for the readers in Sept edition in 2019.

With ever increasing multi-industry experience Gary continues to support others as an IOSH mentor and PRI panel and committee member. He openly embraces opportunities to promote the occupation and those within it, via speaking opportunities, mentoring and written publications.
