Alex was elected in 2017 and quickly made a name for himself as a leading voice for transformative climate policy. In 2019 he set up the Net Zero All-Party Parliamentary Group to help secure a low carbon and clean industrial and economic future for the UK. 

In 2021 Alex was appointed as the Shadow Minister for Nature Recovery and the Domestic Environment in the Shadow DEFRA Team. Amongst other things, his portfolio includes flooding and the impact of extreme weather events. Alex is a passionate campaigner for better flooding policy, regularly challenging the Government on their record and support for high flood-risk communities, both in his constituency and across the country.
