Online Event 13 May 2021, 9:00am - 4:00pm
In 2019 the total UK greenhouse gas emissions were down by 3.6% compared to 2018 and 45.2% lower than in 1990. The UK net emissions of carbon dioxide were provisionally estimated to be 351.5 million tonnes, 3.9% lower than in 2018.
The UK was the first major economy to embrace a legal obligation to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. The Government has set out ambitious plans for a Green Industrial Revolution in the UK. There will be £12 billion of government investment in a Ten Point Plan which will potentially attract three times as much investment from the private sector and will create and support up to 250,000 green jobs.
The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has had a devastating effect on the economy. The Green Industrial Revolution is a key element in Britain’s economic recovery. Over the last 30 years, it has been demonstrated that economic success and environmental responsibility go hand in hand as we have expanded our GDP by 75% while cutting emissions by 43%.
This event will explore the progress that the public sector is making in driving forward the energy and sustainability agenda. Hear from key policy makers and get the latest updates on government policy and targets for implementation.
Practical case study examples from public sector organisations will demonstrate how to fulfil green targets and achieve efficiency improvements in key areas such as accelerating the shift to zero-emission vehicles, promoting green public transport, greener buildings, protecting the natural environment and working towards net zero emissions by 2050.
