Principal Workplace Health Strategist, Anne Harriss and Associates, Emeritus Professor and Past President Elect at Society of Occupational Medicine

Anne is Emeritus Professor, London South Bank University and is a Queen’s Nurse, and holds several fellowships including  Fellow of the Royal College of Nursing, Hon Fellow of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine, Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA), and a HEA National Teaching Fellow.


She was the Association of Occupational Health Nurses Occupational Health Nurse of the Year in 2011 and finalist in the Nursing Times Nurse of the Year (2022).


In 2020 she was elected President of the Society of Occupational Medicine, the only non-physician to be president in the society’s 87-year history. She represents the Royal College of Nursing on the Council for Work and Health. She is proud to have taught many of today’s OH Nurse leaders practicing across the globe.


She has contributed to the development of public/occupational health initiatives nationally and internationally as a result of projects in Slovakia, Australia, New Zealand, Asia, and Southern Africa.  She has been involved in projects with the leadership teams of several organisations including the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD) and Mind. Her interest in mental health led  Anne to be the lead adviser for the SOM/RCN Foundation(2020) systematic review The Mental Health and Wellbeing of Nurses and Midwives in the United Kingdom. 


She has a particular interest in promoting mental health in the workplace and represents the Society of Occupational Medicine on the Government business dialogue on workplace mental health established following recommendations within the Stevenson-Farmer (2017) report Thriving at Work. She has delivered training to managers and others in organisations as diverse as the military, higher education, NHS and third sector organisations. Anne has been integral to the development of several Covid-19 resources supporting health professionals and employers produced by the Society of Occupational Medicine.
