Dr Ruth Mizoguchi is a Care of the Elderly Consultant and Dementia Lead at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital (CWH) NHS Foundation Trust and holds a post as an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Imperial College.
Ruth qualified from Tokai University School of Medicine, Japan and Imperial College, UK. She has a special interest in dementia and has gone through training at the University of California San Francisco Memory Aging Centre, USA. During her specialist training she undertook dementia research at Imperial College, completed a year of overseas training at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Hong Kong where she developed interested in Dementia.
At her current trust, she works closely with neurologists and together they have established a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) memory clinic with the opportunity for dementia research and have access to Clinical Trials at Imperial College. She also runs the Spina Bifida & Hydrocephalus MDT Clinic, which is the only adult clinic in the UK. With experience in Frailty Units and neurorehabilitation, Ruth continues to lead various dementia research while supervising clinicians and students, as well as providing teaching for undergraduate medical students.
Prior to her current appointment she was a Care of the Elderly consultant & Dementia Lead at the Royal Free Hospital NHS Foundation Trust from 2012-2018 where she also set up a memory clinic. She was also invited as an international speaker to talk about her experience in admission avoidance. She also set up an exchange programme between Royal Free Hospital and the Mie Prefecture in Japan.
