Online Event 16 June 2022, 9:00am - 3:00pm
The COVID-19 pandemic has created significant challenges around the world, particularly in exacerbating socioeconomic inequalities across primary, secondary, and tertiary education. During the UK lockdowns, 74% of privately educated students received full virtual school days, compared to just 38% of state educated pupils, according to a 2021 British Academy report.
Blended learning refers to courses or programmes which can be delivered in either a physical location or online platform, where sessions can easily be transferred across these modes yet maintain and maximise benefits in a seamless and complementary flow. In the past year, blending learning within the United Kingdom has experienced even greater transformations, given changing government guidance for education, new travel restrictions, and the unpredictable nature of local COVID-19 outbreaks.
Since the pandemic began, 61% of teachers report that they feel ‘quite confident’ or ‘very confident’ to provide high quality remote education, yet 49% stated that it has been ‘quite difficult’ or ‘very difficult’ to align remote and other new styles of learning with the curriculum. Addressing the challenges of blended learning requires improving access to quality resources, and an increased recognition of this impact on student life, quality and flexibility of learning.
According to a World Economic Forum survey, 49% of adults believe that higher education will take a blended format in the next five years, with a split between in-person and online. Looking forward for the education sector requires considering what elements of blended learning are here to stay, and which can be improved further.
This event will consider the future of blended learning by providing insights from case studies and leaders in education. The sessions will include a range of examples and contributions from by leaders in blended learning and will examine how using these new educational tools can be beneficial when properly delivered with infrastructure and resources.
