BIM in Construction 2022

Online Event 4 October 2022, 9:00am - 3:00pm

Overview

BIM (Building Information Modelling) is transforming the construction industry, providing major cost reductions and environmental benefits. Creating digital descriptions of all facets of a physical construction project has advantages at every level, from conception to finished structure outcomes.

A study by McKinsey determined that 75% of companies adopting BIM reported positive returns on their investments. However, according to the NBS 10th annual BIM report published in 2020, BIM is more commonly used by private sector clients (77%) than public sector (62%), with BIM more commonly being utilised by repeat clients than new, and more likely to be used on new build projects than refurbishment.

Despite the construction sector being historically slow moving, BIM adoption has grown substantially in the course of the last decade, with increased awareness and embedded standards becoming widely accepted.

Digital technologies are being applied in urbanisation projects, industrialisation, and civil engineering to offer greater value in production, productivity, cost-optimisation, and efficiency, as well as reducing risk. Public administrations are using the three-dimensional digital model as the basis for their tenders while dealing with projects planned using the BIM methodology.

This event will provide a platform for built-environment practitioners to share innovations and technical developments in digital design, artificial intelligence, smart technologies, and other aspects of digitisation.
