Online Event 20 January 2022, 9:00am - 3:00pm
In early 2020 the Department for Education's ‘Initial teacher training (ITT) market review’ began, but was paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In July 2021 the review was published, with the findings and recommendations due for response by the end of 2021, with changes being seen in 2022.
The Department for Education's ITT market review report focused on major teacher training priorities including more homogenous national approach, as well as the significance of professional development for teachers and improving diversity in teaching. The core purpose of the review being to narrow attainment gaps and improving outcomes for children and young people. This is vital now more than ever due to the disruption arising from the COVID-19 pandemic on children in education.
There has been criticism of the review and the potential changes from many teacher training institutions, most notably universities. Many agree in the consistency of excellent standards across all ITT programmes, but are hesitant in the creation of a streamline, ‘one way’ of training teachers, with many addressing the impact on lack in training diversity this may create and the impact on the pipeline of new teachers.
This event will explore the current different approaches to teacher training, the potential changes that would be brought about by the ITT market review, and the future of teacher training, including the importance of ensuring a healthy pipeline of teachers for future generations. Through a series of high-level keynotes and practical case study examples, delegates will gain valuable insights into the future of teacher training and development.
