Chelsea Sommer is the Global Director of Safeguarding at HIAS and oversees all safeguarding work in the 20+ countries where HIAS provides assistance to refugees and displaced people. A recognized Safeguarding expert and leader, she has worked for over 10 years helping the most vulnerable people in humanitarian and development contexts globally. She has developed and implemented Safeguarding systems at the global, regional, national and inter-agency level with international and local NGOs, CBOs, governments, and the United Nations. Previous to her work at HIAS, she worked as a Global Safeguarding Advisor with Mercy Corps, as the National Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) focal point with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Colombia, and as co-leader of the Colombia PSEA Task Force supporting PSEA efforts across the UN humanitarian and development system nationally.
