Dorset Police

Deputy Chief Constable Sam de Reya joined Dorset Police in June 2020 and has responsibility for delivery and performance, is the joint SRO of the Change Programme for Dorset, Devon and Cornwall and is responsible for Professional Standards for both forces.

She is also the force lead for Ethics and encourages greater investment in policing standards, championing ethical behaviour in the service.  Sam co-chairs the South West Regional Police Ethics Network and represents the Region at the UK Police Ethics Guidance Group.

Prior to joining Dorset Police, Sam was the Chief Superintendent and Commander for Devon leading front line policing services, investigation, neighbourhood policing and partnerships.

She joined Northumbria Police in 1996 and transferred to Devon and Cornwall Police in 1999. Her career since then has consisted of a variety of roles including Local Policing, Crime Investigation and as Head of the Professional Standards Department. 

As a senior female Police Officer and previously the UK Superintendents Association Representative for Gender, Sam is actively involved in supporting equal opportunities and inclusion.  She is proactively invested in leadership development, mentoring and coaching. 

In 2014 Sam introduced the South West Region Women in Leadership Conferences which are now into their 8th year and focus on developing leadership and business skills and offering networking opportunities.

In September 2018 Sam graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico as an international student following 10-week development programme with US Law Enforcement.

Sam is also a mum of 2 children and wife to a husband in the Royal Marines.
