Dr Simon Harold Walker is a Senior Research Associate within the Healthy Working Lives Group at University of Glasgow, UK. He specialises in mental health, occupational health research, military & medical history, and suicidology. At Glasgow, Simon is currently leading 3 research projects focused on occupational physical and mental health, including POWER which focuses on physical and mental health for older workers. As an individual with lived experience of suicidal action, Simon is passionate about the topic suicide and mental health. During his historiographical based PhD research (2015-18), Simon developed a keen focus on Suicidology culminating in a hybrid research study on military medical history and male suicide. This research became the basis of War Bodies, published in 2020 by Bloomsbury Academic. Subsequently, Simon was commissioned to write his second book Silent Voices: A century of British Military Suicide for Palgrave McMillian due 2025. His current passion project is RESUME which is investigating Scottish Nursing Suicide over the last four decades. He also has a dog called Pond, runs a digital design & web management company (SCE Consultants), and moonlights as the standup comedian, "The Glasgow Cowboy".
