Online Conference 25 May 2021, 9:00am - 26 May 2021, 2:00pm
There are currently over 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK. This figure is expected to increase to 1.6 million people by 2040 and there will be over 127,700 people who have withdrawn from the workforce to care for someone living with dementia.
The total annual cost of labour forgone to people caring for people with dementia will be approximately £6.3 billion per year, double the current amount.
The cost of treating people with dementia in the NHS and the social care system is £23 billion per year which is more than the cost of cancer, heart disease and strokes. The Covid-19 pandemic is leading to extremely high death rates amongst people living with dementia – 25% of all Covid-19 deaths in England and Wales.
In 2015, the Government launched its Challenge on Dementia 2020 campaign which had 50 commitments to tackle the key challenges.
This event will provide attendees with an opportunity to get the latest Government updates on progress with tackling dementia, along with senior body updates. Hear practical case studies demonstrating innovative solutions for addressing a wide range of key current issues including early diagnosis, person-centred care, technology use, housing design and the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
