Dr Sarah Hotham is a Senior Research Fellow and BPS Chartered Psychologist based at the Centre for Health Service Studies (CHSS), University of Kent. Sarah’s expertise is in applied public health research and behavioural psychology. She leads a portfolio of research that focuses on designing, implementing and evaluating interventions to reduce social isolation/loneliness. She has specific expertise in social prescribing, leading work across different aspects in this topic. This includes evaluations of both NHS social prescribing programmes and non-NHS funded link worker referral schemes to address mental health and unemployment. She is also experienced in training the social prescribing workforce, commissioned by London Sport to design and deliver a bespoke package of training to support link workers on discussing the physical activity. She recently led the evaluation of ‘Ageless Thanet’ -a five-year National Lottery-funded initiative from the Ageing Better programme that aimed to reduce loneliness and social isolation in older adults. Sarah also has an interest in building research capacity in public health and is currently on an academic secondment in the Public Health team at Kent County Council.
