I am Head of Sustainability, Estates and Facilities across the cluster that includes NHS Somerset, NHS Dorset and NHS Bath, Swindon and Wiltshire Integrated Care Board. My background in the NHS is in Primary Care contracting and commissioning, including a large primary care estates portfolio. Prior to joining the NHS, I worked as a Procurement and Contracts consultant in the Education sector.
In my role, I believe the future of the built environment is one of adaptive and circular buildings, designed to evolve, not expire. A socially valuable environment that enhances wellbeing, inclusion, and equity to green and blue spaces, an environment that actively encourages walkability, and naturally develops a culture of placemaking. It’s one of financial resilience, delivering measurable return on impact and collaborative by design, where policy, people, and purpose align.
I’m an active member of the One Public Estate Group and Strategic Estates Group, and whilst my portfolio largely consists of corporate estate across the cluster, it also involves supporting the Acute to Community ‘left shift’’. Through my OPE work I have been actively involved in town regeneration schemes, including Yeovil Glovers Walk, Shape Mendip in Shepton Mallet and Garden Village proposals as part of the Somerset Council Local Plan.
Significant gains in population health can be achieved by working in partnerships to improve the built, natural and social environments. Like many estates’ colleagues, I am an advocate for better utilisation of community assets and the public estate, to restore local health-vital infrastructure. The left shift provides an opportunity to create a sustainable, equitable approach that benefits both individuals and the wider health system. The future of care lies in neighbourhoods, built around people, communities and relationships.
