Associate Director of Sustainability

Claire Igoe is the Associate Director of Sustainability at NHS Greater Manchester, providing strategic leadership on the environmental sustainability agenda and overseeing delivery of the NHS GM Green Plan. She is responsible for leading a comprehensive programme of work, fostering a culture of collaboration and cooperation with system partners across both the NHS and broader public sector.

Claire’s career began in the pharmaceutical sector before she transitioned into the environmental field. She spent several years working for an environmental charity, delivering both publicly funded and private environmental consultancy support to businesses of all sizes. Subsequently, Claire joined Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, where she established and led an award-winning sustainability function for several years, developing both her technical and strategic sustainability skills, across areas including sustainability strategy, engaging staff, energy and waste management, climate change adaptation, sustainable travel and sustainable procurement. Claire then transitioned into her current role and established an environmental sustainability function for NHS Greater Manchester.

Claire holds a Master’s degree in Pollution and Environmental Control from the University of Manchester, and a BSc in Chemistry with Industrial Environmental Chemistry from the University of Warwick. Claire is a Chartered Environmentalist and a Full member of ISEP (Institute of Sustainability & Environmental Professionals).
