Mark Davies is the Chief Executive of Lancaster City Council, bringing decades of hands-on experience and a deep commitment to public service. Mark’s career began in frontline roles, including self-employed grounds maintenance and building cleaning at Bolton Metropolitan Council. His drive and leadership saw him rise to lead the council’s building cleaning operation, gaining valuable insight into the operational heart of local government.
In 2002, Mark joined Lancaster City Council, initially managing cleansing, grounds maintenance, refuse, and recycling. His effectiveness in these roles led to his appointment as Director for Communities and the Environment, where he oversaw a broad portfolio including public realm, housing, leisure, and customer services. Mark’s approach is characterized by collaboration, innovation, and a focus on delivering tangible outcomes for residents.
As Chief Executive, Mark is recognized for championing climate action, reducing inequalities, and fostering strong partnerships across sectors. He has played a pivotal role in shaping the council’s response to major initiatives, such as local government reorganisation, and is committed to ensuring Lancaster leads by example in decarbonization and community engagement.
