Dr. Daphne Hazell graduated as a doctor in 2000 and has since dedicated her career to the improvement of patient care through innovative and evidence-based approaches. Her interest in wound care began in 2010 while running a refugee health clinic in Turkey, where many of the patients had severe traumatic wounds. This experience then opened her eyes when she was working back in the NHS, about the urgent need to improve UK healing rates and the quality of wound care services here.
Currently, Dr. Hazell runs Homewoundcare, a specialised research service committed to advancing wound care. The service includes home visiting wound care nurses so that the housebound—a group that often receives a significant amount of the UK's wound nursing time but is typically excluded from most clinical studies, can fully participated. Under her leadership, Homewoundcare has grown significantly and is now contributing as an agile testing ground for innovative pathway design aimed at improving patient outcomes and reducing pressures on the NHS community and primary care services.
Her latest development has been establishing a network of 40+ GP practices, covering a patient population of 1.2 million to proactively bring primary care into wound care and other research. These nurses now actively engage in research studies, contributing valuable data and insights that drive the continuous improvement of real life wound care practice.
Dr. Hazell's dedication to leveraging evidence-based data to enhance patient quality care makes her a distinguished speaker at the IGPP Wound Care Conference, where she will share her expertise and insights on this critical topic.
