Associate Professor in Nursing, Nursing Associate Programme Lead

Georgina Cox is an Associate Professor in Nursing at the University of East London and is a first generation Windrush descendant. She has over 30 years’ experience in nursing and over 20 plus years teaching in higher education.   Georgie has run both pre and post registration courses as well as holding positions in programme leadership as well special interest Physiology, Diabetes Practice & Nurse prescribing Georgie successfully led the pilot course for Trainee nursing associates programme, the first new professional role in nursing in more than 50 years and is currently the programme lead for Nursing Associates at UEL.  

 

Georgie is a member of the second cohort of the WHEN100 Black Women Professors Now program. She is currently chair for the UEL Office for institutional Equity Race Network & is the departmental lead for the Athena Swan for Health Sport and Bioscience department). She previously co-chaired the Healthcare Academics Race Equality Diversity Inclusivity Network {HAREDIN} and Strategic advisory group as well as its sister groups for student nurses {SHAREDIN} and Alumni and co-chaired on Middlesex university anti-racism (MDXARN). Georgie is also part of the national steering group GM student experience steering group.  

 

The 2016/17 awarding gap data and research galvanised her interest into equality diversity and inclusivity in the nursing profession, student’s progression, and that of colleagues around her. By joining these networks, it has enabled Georgie to put ‘Race’ issues high on the agenda and to contribute to that greater body of knowledge and understanding. She is currently co-authoring a student nursing Associate physiology text to further highlight the needs of the GEM populace and use this to decolonise the curriculum.
