Ian Townend has over 18 years of experience in health and care working at a national level first developing HL7 v3 standards before leading on standards for NHS England as it formed and then moving into the architecture team. Through his career, he has played pivotal roles in commissioning, designing, and delivering a range of systems and standards such as the National Record Locator and GP Connect. He currently leads across technology strategy, architecture and standards for NHS England covering solution architecture, enterprise architecture, and the development and implementation of standards products such as SNOMED, FHIR, and GS1.
