Emma Parkinson is the Postgraduate Course Director for Emergency Planning and Crowded Places at Coventry University. She leads on programmes in risk, resilience, emergency planning, and crowd safety, and her research interests include the development of resilience in the delivery of safe crowded places, the use of simulation for training and exercise, and public-private sector interoperability. Emma maintains her practice in crowd safety, and provides consultancy services to national and international music festivals and street events. She sits as part of the West Midlands Training Exercising and Learning Group and works regularly with the team at Coventry University’s XVR Simulation Centre to design and deliver emergency planning exercises to students, Category 1 and 2 responders, and the private sector. The team won the Resilience & Learning from Major Incidents Award at the Excellence in Fire & Emergency Awards for the exercise “Trouble In Paradise" and has an active, ongoing simulation programme.
