Dr Hatim Abdulhussein joined Brunel University London as a Senior Lecturer on the Physician Associate Programme in August 2019. He is currently a GP Registrar and aspiring Sports and Exercise Physician with strong experience in National Healthcare Policy, Medical Education and Digital Health. 

Hatim studied Medicine at Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry graduating in 2015, also completed a BSc in Sports and Exercise Medicine. He completed Foundation Training at Bedford Hospital and entered GP Specialty Training with the London Deanery in Hillingdon. Hatim was a National Medical Directors Clinical Fellow at Health Education England, supporting the Review into the Foundation Training Programme as well as acting as advisor on technology to the Foundation Programme Curriculum Committee at the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges. He was on the Department of Health and Social Care Commission into NHS Staff and Learners Mental Health and Wellbeing chaired by Sir Keith Pearson, which led to multiple recommendations to make the NHS the best place to work, including the formation of a Samaritans type service for NHS Staff and Learners. Most recently he helped develop the 'Topol Digital Fellowship Programme' which was launched by acting Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Matt Hancock, appointing 18 healthcare professionals in its inaugural cohort to lead digital transformation projects across the NHS. As part of the Technical Skills and Enablement workstream of the NHS Long Term Plan Hatim prepared narrative for the published Interim People Plan around the role of digital health in the future of the health service. Hatim was subsequently awarded a Membership of the Faculty of Clinical Informatics in October 2019. Hatim continues to hold leadership roles with the Royal College of General Practitioners and the Faculty of Clinical Informatics. 

Hatim has a keen academic interest in the power of physical activity to tackle both physical and mental health conditions and is currently evaluating the role of technology-based interventions to improve physical activity as part of his Masters Dissertation in Sports and Exercise Medicine with the University of South Wales. He is passionate about ensuring his Physician Associate students receive teaching on the value of physical activity as an intervention.
